Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Everything you need to know about laser hair removal.

Q: Is laser hair removal permanent?
A: Laser hair removal is permanent reduction.  You will require maintenance treatments a few times a year even after the area has been fully treated. We recommend a package of 8 sessions so we can effectively reduce a good percentage of the hair as every hair is at a different stage in the growth cycle.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: All of our packages are 8 sessions which is usually effective at reducing 80-90% of the hair.

Q: Will the laser work on my skin complexion?
A: Yes, we carry the Cynosure Apogee Elite Plus which can safely treat all skin types.  The 755nm Alexandrite treats lighter skin types and the 1064 Nd:YAG treats darker skin types.  Unfortunately, the laser is not equipped to see white hair, gray hair, or blonde hair to effectively treat it.

Q: Can I wax or shave between treatments?
A: You cannot wax, use depilatory creams, thread or tweeze the hair during the laser hair removal process but you can shave as much as you like.

Q: Is laser hair removal painful?
A: You will experience some mild discomfort as it feels like a rubber band snapping your skin.  However, we do use a chiller system to cool the skin as we laser each area.

Q: How do I prepare for my appointment?
A: Make sure you have no direct sunlight, sun-bathing, or tanning bed exposure for at least 3 weeks prior to treatment.  No spray tanning a week before treatment. No antibiotics for at least 7 days prior. No waxing, tweezing, depilatory creams or threading for at least 4 weeks prior to your visit.  Please discontinue use of topical retinols, AHA’s, and BHA’s for at least 7 days prior.  Always notify your technician before your appointment if you are on any photosensitive medications.

Q: Is laser safe?
A: Yes, it has been approved by the FDA as a safe practice and does not penetrate far enough into the skin to cause any cancerous activity or cell mutation.  The laser beam only targets the hair follicles not the surrounding tissue.

Q: Who will perform my treatment?
A: In Georgia, only licensed laser practitioners or nurse practitioners are allowed to operate lasers which we strictly adhere to.  Our location has a medical director as well that oversees all of our treatments and protocols.

Q:What changes should I expect after I go through my treatments?  I am noticing patches that are missing but other patches are still growing?
A: Yes, this is normal.  After a treatment you will see hairs start to fall out and the hair will be slower to grow back and textural changes will be noticeable. You will see patches that didn’t fall out and that’s not because your technician didn’t go over them thoroughly but because those particular hairs were not in an active stage of growth. It will never be 100% gone but it will be effectively reduced by 80-90%.

Laser Genesis/Laser Facial FAQ

Everything you need to know about laser facials.

Q: What is involved with the laser genesis/laser facial treatment?
A: Patients will often describe it as a warming sensation that is relaxing and therapeutic.  There is no downtime and you can expect a youthful glow with a more even complexion, smoother texture and minimized pores in the weeks preceding your treatment.

VI Peel FAQ

Everything you need to know about VI Chemical peels.

Q: What will the VI Peel do for my skin?
A: It will help with fine lines and wrinkles, improve collagen and elastin which tightens the skin, minimize pores, and erase hyperpigmentaion and old acne scarring.

Q: How many times a year should you do a VI peel and how far apart should you space them?
A: Most patients should do them 3-4 times per year to improve sun damage and erase hyperpigmentation.  They will give a brighter and more refreshed look to the skin.

Q: Can all skin types have the VI Peel?
A: Yes, that is the beauty of this peel, that it is safe for all skin types with no pre-conditioning beforehand.

Q: Does the VI Peel sting?
A: You will feel a tingling sensation for a few moments and then the numbing agent it contains will take effect and you will not feel any discomfort.

Q: How much peeling should I expect?
A: For the first couple of days you will not peel, your skin will look shiny and slightly orange.  The next three days your skin will resemble shedding similar to that of a snake shedding its skin.

Q: What are important aftercare tips for the VI Peel?
A: The most important advice is to not pick at the skin as it sheds because it will cause further hyperpigmentation.  If you absolutely must trim it, do so with tiny scissors very close to the skin so it will not pull at it.  Do not sweat or do any activity that will cause the skin to bubble and potentially cause a chemical burn.  Be careful with cleansing the area and most importantly follow your home care kit instructions and ALWAYS wear sunscreen to protect your investment.
