Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a cosmetic procedure that improves the look of old scarring/acne scarring and boosts collagen and elastin in the skin. It does this by producing a controlled injury to the skin with microscopic punctures to force the skin to repair itself. Microneedling involves a small hand held tool with short needles at the end that range in diameter from 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. As the controlled injury repairs itself, it will plump the skin and even out and retexturize the scarring for a more smooth appearance.
Who is a good candidate for Microneedling ?
Aging skin, anyone looking for the latest technology to ward off the signs of aging, and those looking to improve old scarring and stretch marks.
What can I expect with the results from this treatment?
Your skin will be red for about 2 days but will almost immediately be plumper and have a more radiant look. It vastly improves skin texture and with several treatments spaced out at the recommendation of your esthetician you can see a noticeable improvement. The more treatments you have, it will increase collagen and elastin production in the skin. We can also use topicals and anti-aging serums with the treatment to penetrate the skin through the microscopic channels that have been opened. In the end, you will be left with a tighter, smoother, glowing texture.
What should I expect when I come for my first treatment?
We will apply a numbing cream 20-30 minutes before treatment so it’s not painful. The treatment itself only lasts about 20 minutes and you will experience very little downtime. There will be minor redness and swelling the day of and the day after and sometimes light peeling or flakiness for a couple of days. The day after redness subsides you are free to resume your normal skin care routine.
